Automatic Backups: Your Digital Life Insurance
No one thinks it will happen to them until it does. Why you need automated off-site backups.
Imagine arriving at the office on a Monday and your website is gone. An update error, a hack, or a server failure. All your content, your products, your customer data… gone.
The panic is real. But if you have a good backup strategy, the solution is a matter of minutes.
The 3-2-1 Rule
It is the gold standard in data security:
- 3 copies of your data (original + 2 backups).
- 2 different media (e.g., hard drive and cloud).
- 1 off-site copy (in case the office or main server burns down).
Why automatic?
Because we are human and we forget. “I’ll do the backup on Friday” becomes “next month”. Modern systems perform daily or hourly backups without you lifting a finger.
Easy Restoration
A backup is useless if it takes 3 days to restore. Part of my job is ensuring that, in the worst-case scenario, we can be back online quickly with minimal data loss.
Conclusion
Backups are like car insurance: you hope never to use them, but you can’t drive without them.
